Why we endorsed Christine

Christine Cockley is the only out LGBTQ+ member of the Ohio House of Representatives, and one of just two out members of the General Assembly. Since coming out publicly in 2025, she has carried that visibility into every committee room and every hearing where our community is under attack. When LGBTQ+ Ohioans traveled to the Statehouse this spring to testify against the drag ban in House Bill 249, Representative Cockley stood with them and reminded lawmakers that our lives and stories deserve respect in the policymaking process.

Her record matches her voice. Cockley is the primary sponsor of legislation on missing persons cases, identification access for unhoused Ohioans, and accountability for chatbots that encourage suicide or violence. Each of these disproportionately affects LGBTQ+ people, and she wrote them with our community in mind. She has committed to sponsoring or cosponsoring the Ohio Fairness Act, the PRIDE Act, the conversion therapy ban, and the Marriage Equality Act, and she holds one of the strongest records on the Ohio Pride legislative scorecard.

A Mansfield native and proud West Sider, Cockley earned her degrees from Ohio State's John Glenn College of Public Affairs and built her career in Columbus nonprofits before winning House District 6 with more than 60 percent of the vote in 2024.
